Edge of flower under direct exposure
Interior of petal under direct exposure.
The images show petals from a white flower (suspected to be a white rose or a white lily), under direct light (generated using a mobile-phone flashlight). The sample was obtained from the plantations near the Center for Student Services at Caltech’s campus (1200 East California Boulevard, Pasadena, CA) around 7:00 pm local time (CA) on May 31st, 2019. The flower was cut using a scissor, and the petal was flattened using a cotton swab.
Note the cellular structure visible at the edge of the flower petal, as well as, the gradient of the color of cellular material (visible in the second image).
