In Croatia, we LOVE THE (Adriatic) SEA! We even have a festival dedicated entirely to the sea where art, culture, science, new technologies, innovations, stories, and legends interweave – aMORE Festival (AMORE=LOVE in Italian; MORE=SEA in Croatian). aMORE wants to draw attention to the environmental, socioeconomic, and cultural importance of the marine ecosystems as well as pointing out the causes of their degradation. aMORE festival, in particular, raises public awareness about the importance of preserving the sea and aims to improve the relationships that the local community, visitors, and tourists develop with it. This year aMORE gained a totally new dimension – a foldscope one!
Is there anything alive in the gigant heap of garbage ‘fished’ out of the sea?
Oooo yes, there is…
A cross-section of a sea-grass ( Cymodocea nodosa)
A cross-section of a cuttlefish bone
A cross-section of a sea lattuce ( Ulva lactuc a) FROM THE CLASSROOM… The foldscope journey began here, in the classroom of Tar-Vabriga elementary school, where students volunteered their time to help us assemble all of the microscopes.
Students of the Elementary school Tar-Vabriga (Istria, Croatia) assemble foldscopes together with scientists from Invasive Species Centre (CIV) and the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism on May 29, 2019
It is fun… TO THE FOLDSCOPE MICROCOSMOS ON SITE….
Students enjoyed using foldscopes exploring marine life at the Lanterna beach (Istria, Croatia) on June 1st, 2019.
Invasive Species Centre, Croatia ENDING WITH FINAL MESSAGE: LET’S GET TO KNOW OUR SEA SO WE COULD LOVE IT MORE AND PROTECT IT BETTER!
