DATE OF OBSERVATION: 11/07/2019, IN THE BIOLOGY LAB USING A FOLDSCOPE.
STUDENTS INVOLVED: VISHAL AVINASH, “XI” A,
CMR NATIONAL PU COLLEGE, ITPL.
THE SHRIMP WAS PLACED ON A GLASS SLIDE, COVERED IT WITH A COVER SLIP AND VIEWED UNDER A FOLDSCOPE USING NATURAL LIGHT FOR LIGHT SOURCE.
THE FOLLOWING WAS OBSERVED:
1.ON THE UPPER SECTION OF THE FEMALE’S BODY, ON THE “SHOULDER”, THE DEVELOPING EGGS ON THE OVARIES MAY BE SEEN IN MORE TRANSPARENT INDIVIDUALS.
2. THE SHAPE OF THE OVARIES DRAPES ACROSS BOTH SIDES OF THE SHRIMP, GIVING RISE TO THE NICKNAME “SADDLE”. THE PRESENCE OF A “SADDLE” INDICATES A FEMALE THAT IS LIKELY READY TO MATE.
3. GILLS CONSIST OF THIN SHEETS OF TISSUE CONTAINING BLOOD VESSELS.
