One day National Workshops on “Foldscope as a tool to screen parasitic infections in wild animals” on 12.03.2019 & 26.03.2019

Two one day National Workshops on “Foldscope as a tool to screen parasitic infections in wild animals” were conducted on 12 th and 26 th March, 2019 under the DBT funded project “Foldscope as a tool to screen parasitic infections in wild animals of Tamil Nadu” functioning at the Department of Wildlife Science (WLS), Madras Veterinary College Campus (MVC), Vepery, Chennai – 600007. A total of 27 (13+14) participants including forest and zoo veterinarians and veterinary students actively participated in the workshop.  The national workshops were inaugurated by Dr. Ghadevaru Sarathchandra, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences (DFBS), TANUVAS. Dr.A.Mangala Gowri, Professor, Centre for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative, Madras Veterinary College delivered a guest lecture on “Foldscope as user friendly tool on blood/bone marrow stem cell model” on 12.03.2019.  Dr.S.Meignanalakshmi, Professor, Directorate of Centre for Animal Health Studies, TANUVAS delivered a guest lecture on “Application of Foldscope in the study of rumen flora” on 26.03.2019. Dr.C.Sreekumar, Professor and Head, Department of wildlife Science highlighted the importance of spot diagnosis of parasitic diseases in wild animals. Dr. M. Palanivelrajan and Dr. K.Senthilkumar, delivered lectures on the dissemination of scientific knowledge of foldscope and also conducted hands on training to the participants on assembly and use of Foldscope to screen parasitic infections in wild animals. A Foldscope each was provided to the participants. Feedback from each participant was received about the programme.  Dr. Ghadevaru Srathchandra, DFBS, awarded the certificates to the participants.
