I run an after school program at Science World for inner city students in Vancouver. I wanted the Foldscopes for the program since they were portable and could be used by kids of various ages. By the time the school year rolled around, I could not find time to experiment and test them out. I finally have a bit of free time where I could try out the Foldscopes.
I started with some insects I found around the science center. These pictures were from a chafer beetle. The legs were very hairy and you can see the hooked feet.
I also took some pictures from a honey bee. The sides of the legs were fuzzy and are meant to help carry around pollen. It was interesting to compare the two parts and see them up close.
In the next couple of weeks, I plan to work on writing up a lesson plan and seeing if I can try it out with some guests!
