The current pandemic may have restricted the movement of youngsters but it cannot hold off their passion to learn.
Upon discovering Foldscope online, we got a basic kit for these budding, young citizen scientists who gamely assisted in setting it up.
It’s a wide stretch of learning and discovery path for them as they try to explore the world – or worlds – of the small.
For now, they were able to see a greenish fragment inside a pumice from the Pinatubo Volcano which erupted here in the Philippines in 1991.
A sample red ant was also used to look into the anatomy of one from the family Formicidae .
Then a human hair they have never seen up close like that before.
We consider this a part of the starting activities for a citizen science team we hope to grow and nurture here in our city. And in one look, we already knew that Foldscope is an instrument that can definitely win the hearts and passion of the young.
