This shelf mushroom was collected from a tree stump on the pipe track in Table Mountain. Top image is of the stump with the shelf mushrooms attached. I thought the pale pink ones looked interesting so I collected my sample from the top mushroom of that cluster. I then thinly sliced the porous part of the mushroom (near the base) with a scalpel to look at it under my foldscope (bottom two images).

The structure of this part of the mushroom was full of irregularly shaped holes that function to release spores, according to www.mushrrom-appreciation.com. I had a fun time with this fungi!
