Hair-like strands on a protea petal collected from Table Mountain. Protea petal collected from Table Mountain. When you are on top of a mountain, everything below you looks so small. The town. The people. The roads. Zooming into the microscopic world of Table Mountain’s flora gave me and my hiking buddy a new found appreciation for the smaller things in life. This beautiful specimen was collected on one of our hikes. The protea was a vibrant shade of pink and the petal was fluffy to the touch. Here the colour is amplified and each hair-like fibre is clearly distinguished.
