I conducted this project as a part of Professor Pringle’s EEB321 class at Princeton University. After searching around outside, I found a leaf small enough to fit in the foldscope–potentially from a black locust tree. The leaf was yellow but appeared dark brown under the foldscope and I was able to get a view of the leaf’s veins.
Up close, I could see tiny segments within the leaf. However, the leaf was thicker than expected and I had a hard time getting enough light through it to get a clear image. I also tried putting a strand of hair under the foldscope.
