I stumbled upon Foldscopes and was interested whether they are really able to detect Malaria. Therefore i bought some Foldscopes as well as malaria parasite samples. However I am not sure if the magnification is enough to clearly detect Malaria and even distinguish different strains.


 The best thing i could do was zooming in on my smartphone. This was actually enough to see the ring stages, the pictures were very blurry nonetheless. I also tried using magnification lenses as well as ocular lenses on top of the Foldscope with disappointing results.

 If somebody has an idea how i could increase my magnification, please tell me in the comments.
