troubleshooting glass slide viewing?

I have been able to get the paper slides to work great, but when I switch to glass slides, and the image is very poor quality. I was hoping to look at some slides for mitosis with my class and I can hardly tell when I pan over the root tip, let alone see anything. I have checked and rechecked, I made sure the sample is slipcover down… adjusted the focus, and tried different light sources. I checked again with the slides that came with the kit (bee leg) and it was very a poor quality image. I think I may be missing a step…? Has anyone made paper slides for onion root mitosis and had better success? Thanks!
