My sixth grade students in California and I decided to take a closer look at some corn sprouts we’ve had growing for a couple of weeks. We set up the paper slides that came with the foldscope with a leaf snippet to look at it under the foldscope with the light attachment. It seems like even our tiny corn leaves were pretty thick with cells. We tried breaking them up (squishing) them a bit and then saw many water droplets separate. Students will have a chance to continue experimenting with the foldscope to see what else they can explore. Some want to look at root clippings from the same sprouts next.
