I collected this sand crab leg from the exoskeleton of a sand crab I found on Half Moon Bay State Beach earlier today. Because the entire exoskeleton itself was too large to put onto a slide, I removed the lower half of one of the legs because it was much smaller and much flatter. I took this picture a few minutes after finding the crab exoskeleton and preparing the leg for viewing using the foldscope. I thought it was really fascinating how clearly I could see the hairs on the end of the leg using the foldscope. Each of the main hairs is much longer and more defined than I expected it to be, but I did not expect to additionally find a set of smaller hairs layered within the longer ones. I was truly amazed by how detailed of a picture I could capture by simply using my phone and the foldscope. #bio60
