Some months ago we contacted Prof. Manu Prakash because we wanted to use the foldscope in projects related with space exploration where the foldscope could be a very useful tool due to its weigth (it would cost far less to take a foldscope to the Moon or Mars than a regular microscope), and also to observe some microchips we were working with at the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC). They gladly acepted to send us some foldscopes to Peru and Colombia so we can use them in these projects.
Two weeks ago they finally arrived and we were more than happy to ensemble them and begin looking at some samples we had like pollen and the microchips.
We have been testing the foldscope on the microchips, which are in charge of Marco Málaga and Fabricio Espinoza, and they have gotten good results as they can clearly observe the bubbles that form inside of the chips.
We will keep posting updates on how these tools help us with our projects. we are very grateful to Manu Prakash and Max Coyle for their help.
