Dear Microcosmos Community, Greetings from Tioman Island, Malaysia. We are the members of The World Changers, a student-run Non-Profit Organization based in Seoul, Korea. We are thrilled about making our first posting at Microcosmos! Actually, in summer of 2014, as a part of our education project in Tanga, Tanzania, we were lucky to obtain twenty pieces of Foldscope prototypes from Prof. Prakash, and we were able to teach 100 elementary kids from Pongwe Primary School. Back then, we only had a handful of Foldscopes and we could only do very rudimentary lessons with kids. This summer, we visited Prof. Prakash at his lab in Stanford University, and we learned about the community of Foldscope users at Microcosmos and what exciting projects are being done around the world. This summer, we planned to teach 30 elementary school kids and 70 high school students in Kampong Juara in Tioman Island. Pictures from Tanzania!

Once we arrived at the school, we first started with some quick introductions and jumped straight into working with the Foldscopes. Our allocated time was only one session of two to three hours, so we did not have much time at all. We brought pre-made glass samples to let students learn how to use the Foldscopes, but then spent most of our time together exploring the local area and letting students prepare their own samples. Our goal was to spark curiosity among the students and let them discover things on their own. We also brought colored pencils and sketchbooks to let the students draw their findings. We left behind Foldscopes at the elementary and high school with a link to the Microcosmos community. Hopefully we will see their own posts soon! We also hope to go again either back to Malaysia or somewhere else while continuing to work with Foldscopes. Best, The World Changers
