In the recent Foldscope session during my Bio60 class, one of the objects I decided to look at was pieces of broccoli. I broke off a few pieces from the head of the broccoli and made a slide to observe using my Foldscope. I was curious as to what broccoli would look like under the microscope because it is a common food item that many people consume. I was surprised at the rather simple microscopic images that I got from my Foldscope. Unlike the complex images from the flower that I examined in my last post, broccoli had a very simple, plain green bumps that were darker than the background. Overall, using Foldscope was very fun and convenient.
