My 1st attempt with the Foldscope using my hair as a specimen. The basic assembly was pretty straightforward but I found it more difficult with the light module, condenser lens, coupling magnets and tablet. My tablet is the new Android from LG which is about the size of the iPad mini. It’s size compared to a phone was very helpful as the majority of the tablet was on the desk which made it quite stable. With the magnetic coupling the panning is done by moving the outer portion of the Foldscope and the only way I could focus was by gentle pressing of the battery because video described method of panning and focusing was secured by the magnets? Perhaps I’ve assembled something incorrectly. I think the method of covering the specimen greatly contributes to the visual artifacts. I’m impressed by others submissions, I hope I can do better next time.
