Alkaloid localization can be done by staining transverse section of plant tissue with Mayer’s reagent (Potassiomercuric iodide solution). it appears as creamish to orangish yellow precipitates in plant cells depending on the composition of alkaloid derivatives. Results are reproducible and can be performed by anyone
