Plain tiger butterfly is a commonly seen butterfly in Nangal region and it is in abundance here.During my field visit ,i collected wing of this butterfly which was lying on the ground and observed it under foldscope.
1. Plain tiger butterfly sucking nectar from the Ageratum plant( billy goat weed plant ) and hence also doing pollination.
2. Wing of dead plain tiger butterfly collected.
3. Wing under foldscope. The yellow portion seen here is a part of vein of wing. Some of the scales are ruptured or already sheded as this wing was wet and very delicate during collection.
4. Shiny wing scales overlapping with each other.
5. Oval shaped scales with smooth margins at top.
6. Wing scales zoomed.
7. A scale displaced from its position and having pointed structures at its base.
8. Black coloured scales showing wavy margins at their top. This post is open to read and review on The Winnower.
