Wetlands are regarded as ‘Nature’s Kidney’ because of their role in controlling of urban runoff, flood mitigation, ground water recharge and water purification. Wetlands are reservoir of genetic diversity and can be resembled as ‘Bank Savings’ considering the ecosystem services provided by them in the form of drinking water, fish, fodder etc. But, unfortunately, wetlands are vanishing from the earth with the increasing craze of ‘utilizing’ every bit of open space for residential or industrial purpose often in violation of norms. Pollution received by the wetlands keeps them on top in list of world’s most threatened ecosystems. Regular check-up and formulation of good prescription for water-bodies is the exigent need of the hour. The combination of researches on abiotic and lesser studied lower strata biotic factors would facilitate management strategies in providing meaning remedy for nature’s kidneys. This 5 days training programme from 16 to 20 July, 2018 was intended for in-house students of Cotton university to make adroit use of their summer vacation by
learning assembly and utilization of Foldscope. Participants visited the only Ramsar site of Assam, Deepor beel, collected water and soil sample to look into the world of living organisms of aquatic ecosystem.
