I extracted the DNA from both a 20g strawberry sample and a 20g banana sample. This was done using a DNA extraction buffer and ethanol. The buffer dissolves the lipid bilayer and organelles of the cell and break up the protein chains exposing the DNA. The DNA is not soluble in cold ethanol allowing us to see (or not see) it under the foldscope. It was extremely easy to see the strands of strawberry DNA however, I was unable to capture any of the banana DNA.
Strawberry DNA
Banana DNA On the first slide, you can see what look like pinkish threads which are the DNA. Unfortunately the second slide with the banana sample shows no threads.
