I am amazed. I just realized I can push my research from the lab to the caltrain and take movies of C elegans embryogenesis on the move. Now, biology research is just like html programming – you can do it everywhere – on the beach, in the kitchen. Here you can see an adult worm that just laid an egg. The animal is watching it in an almost disbelieving manner – just like us when we dive down into the abyss of the microcosmos. The egg later progresses through the individual stages of embryogenesis, in which the little worm develops from a seemingly symmetric egg into a folded structure that subsequently elongates and forms tubular worm. The embryo in the video here just begins to fold from what looks like a comma into an actual bi-lobed structure.
