We took samples of hair from our eyebrows and head. From our head, we were able to take a sample of both healthy and unhealthy hair.
In this first picture above, we can see that the root of the eyebrow hair is rounded and thicker than the rest of the hair. It is also slightly different in color so the root is either made up of different material or covered in different material.
In this second picture of an unhealthy hair from our head, you can see that the root is withered, bent, and thinner than the rest of the hair.
In this last picture of the root of a healthy hair from our head, you can see that (similar to the healthy eyebrow hair) the root is rounded and thicker than the rest of the hair and also slightly different in color than the rest of the hair. Based off of our observations, it seems that the thick and round root of the hair in combination with the material covering it keeps the hair rooted in our skin. -Katie Novotny and Catherine Raquel
