Foldscopes have taken students and teachers out of laboratories to explore science. Foldscopes can be used literally anywhere and everywhere. As an outreach program we visited the rural Kannada medium school at Nagaragere, Gowribidanur taluq, to implement foldscope project. I gave a brief introduction about the features and advantages of foldscopes which was followed by assembling of a foldscope. Later the science teachers demonstrated how to prepare slides.
It was an amazing experience to interact with the children. There was curiosity, excitement and surprise among students. We were so happy to see the enthusiastic children giving leaves, flowers and even a fly to test under foldscope. Students observed stomata, animal cell, plant cell, tissues, mouth and leg parts of insects and many more. At the end of the day we conducted a quiz for 10th std and gave away books as prizes. It was fulfilling visit.
