I always have really liked the aesthetics of flowers, so I wondered what type of texture a flower petal might have and if it was different from how it looked on a large scale, or basically if it would look the same on any level , besides a cellular one. Also, it would be interesting to see if lighting affected it dramatically or not.
These questions are all on a small visual level, so perfect for the foldscope. In order to discover the answers to my questions, I went outside and found a flower that I thought would look interesting under a microscope and took a small piece of a petal. On a large scale the petal was a smooth unison purple color. I felt the flower and took a very close picture of it to see what the texture was close up. On a small scale it appeared to be made of tiny beads or scales. It also did not change very dramatically with different lighting .
Seeing these results made me wonder; Are all parts of the flower the same way with looking so different on a small level, are they made of tiny components that just stay together? What are those individual parts? It isn’t nearly small enough to be cells so it would be interesting to see what those dots are.
