Seagrass meadow support diverse flora and fauna and offer several ecosystems services such as nutrient cycling and foraging and breeding ground for many fishes and crabs. Chilika Lagoon support a rich diversity of seagrasses and their meadows are vital in sustaining the lagoon fishery resources. Nalabana protected sanctuary inside Chilika lagoon is rich in seagrass meadows. We collected sediments from seagrass meadows to study the benthic faunal diversity of these meadows using foldscope. Samples were collected through grab sampler and sieved using a 500 um mesh to collect macrobenthic organism. We did the foldscopy on boat to capture the peristaltic movement of an oligochaeta. Foldscopy provided a high-resolution view of internal visceral organs of oligochaeta and external appendages at the rear end comparable to the resolution obtained from light microscopes. Foldscopy provided an opportunity to capture live view of oligochaeta which we typically loose if we fix the sample with Rose Bengal and analyze after arrival to lab.
