This image has been taken by a student of Ekya School,JP Nagar.
Common name-Onion . Scientific name-Allium Cepa. Family name-Amaryllidaceae . Onion is a herbacious biennial plant.
This image shows the epidermal cells of onion. The clear epidermal cells exist in a single layer and do not contain chlorophyll.this is because Onion bulbs are used by the plant to store energy and not for photosynthesis. In the image,we can notice that the epidermal cells do not have any space between them. This is because epidermal cells protect the Onion and it is inadvisable to have more space between them.
