ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute is one of the research institutes established under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. ICAR is an autonomous organization under Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. In 1983, a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) was established in this Institute to provide transfer of technology to the farming community of Goa.
ICAR – CCARI is spread over 53 ha in which all the major infrastructure and experimental field for research work are established. This Institute provides research and development support to the agriculture and allied sector of Goa region. It plays a major role in promoting excellence in agriculture. This Institute is mainly involved in research activities which are aimed at improving the production and productivity of major crops of this region through various strategies including farming system approach.
The samples were collected with kind permission of Dr. R. Ramesh and with the help of enthusiastic students working with him in ICAR-GOA.
Dr. R. Ramesh: Principal Scientist (Plant Pathology) & Section in-charge (Crop Science) has been engaged in management of plant diseases of economic importance. He is working on biological control of plant diseases and investigating bacterial diseases of crop plants especially R. solanacearum . His current focus includes standardization of management practices to the major soil borne diseases affecting vegetables and spices. His lab focuses on the use of novel, non-conventional strategies for the pathogen control. Pathogen detection and disease diagnosis using conventional and biotechnological techniques is an integral part oftheir core research area. Diseased banana leaf samples:
