I used my foldscope to examine a leaf just off Washington Road in Princeton, NJ. I was able to see what appears to be a vein through the leaf (in the image, it’s the white streak running through the upper left corner). Through the lens, I see a lot of bright green color, which I assume is coming from cells on the leaf. Perhaps these cells are specifically meristem cells or used for photosynthesis, or maybe a different type of plant tissue.
