 The molds on bread were taken and cultured it on the potato dextrose agar media. Spores on the media were observed under foldscope. The mold spreads quickly and the entire bread turns into a green or black color. Bread mold is a simple fungus that takes food and nutrients from the bread and damages the bread surface. Mold growing on the bread can be microscopic fungi belonging to different species like Penicillium, Rhizopus, Aspergillus, Monascus and Fusarium. They are of different shapes and colors depending on the species. Rhizopus stolonifer is the most common and fast growing bread mold. It is also known as black mold as it appears dark green or black in color.

 The Hibiscus genus (hibiscus spp.) is a large group of shrubs, perennials and trees that produce large, tropical blooms in vibrant colours. There are many fungal disease on Hibiscus leaf like, Leaf Spot (Fungi – Cercospora spp., Phyllosticta spp. And others), Leaf Rust (Fungus – Kuehneola malvicola), Hollyhock Rust (Fungus – Puccinia malvacearum). The fungal spores on Hibiscus leaf were observed under foldscope.

We were planned to observe mold mycelia and spores which infested the stored jackfruit seeds. But while observing the mold under foldscope, suddenly we found a moving creature then we focused on that, it was Mite!.

 Mites are very small arthropods and has four pairs of segmented legs. There is a diverse group of  at least 30,000 species of mites. Most species of mites are tiny creatures that live in organic debris of forests  and grasslands where they feed on dead organic matter, fungal spores and hyphae, and plant matter.


 The mite we found may be feed on fungal spores and hyphae and they are called oribatid mites. Oribatid mites(size from 0.2 to 1.4 millimeters (0.008 to 0.055 in)play a very big role in breaking down organic matter from leaves and other vegetation which enriches the top soil.

Oribatid mite under foldscope-#Indiafoldscopephase 1

Stored peanut seeds got infested with mold. Known weight of  infested seeds were washed with known weight sterile water and then 10 μl of above water was taken on a glass slide covered with cover slip and then observed under foldscope.

 ) is an important pest of stored rice grain. Infestation starts from the field itself and is thus, a primary stored grain pest. Females lay 2-6 eggs per day and up to 300 over their lifetime.

 Beak is present and ridge lines are present on pronotum(Fig 1)
 </li>
 <li>
 Adults are around 2 mm long with a long snout and the body colour appears to be brown/black
 </li>
 <li>
 Antennae  is geniculate with small clubs(Fig 2)
 </li>
 <li>
 The elytra have deep lines (striae) and coarse punctures. Four orange/red spots are arranged in a cross on the elytra( Fig 3)
 </li>
 <li>
 The end of the tibial segment of hind leg bears a distinctive apical hook and tarsus of hind leg is with five segments
 </li>
</ol>
