I took a fly’s wing and put it under the microscope, I could see the veins that run through the wing. They seemed to stretch out the wing membrane, which was split into two layers, and make it stay rigid. There were two kinds of veins, one was thicker and ran from the body to the end of the wing, and the other kind was thinner and ran perpendicular to the other veins, making a sort of cell that would aid them in flying and keep the wing rigid.

How Do Fly&#8217;s Wings stay Rigid?

I looked at my fingernail before putting in the microscope, and i noticed that it was just made up of one single layer, it was actually made of of much more. It actually broke apart into two separate “fingernails”. Then I put it under the microscope and saw all the thin layers at the part where it broke off. I could also see so many little dimples on it that I could not feel. It was very interesting because I thought it would look more smooth, but it did not.

 I was dusting my room and started wondering how the duster keeps the dust. I would think that it would just sweep the dust onto the floor so I looked at it closer and saw that there were all these fibers. These would enclose the dust when they pick it instead of just sweeping it onto the floor which is the simplest thing but makes a huge difference when cleaning.

I was looking at plants and I kept asking myself the question how does the water that the roots get in the ground travel all the way to the leaves since water can’t flow upwards. Then I looked at it under my foldscope and saw that the travels up by something that acts like a paper towel. If you were   to fill a jar with water and place a paper towel in it, the water would spread to all parts of the paper towel and that is how it seemed to work with the plant, the water “stuck” to thes

 When I was outside in my yard I saw a flower that had both dead and alive petals, so I thought that I could see what was so different on a microscopic level. The first thing I noticed was the spike like things weren’t there on the dead petal and the dead petal had lost all of the color that it used to have. I also couldn’t see the separation of the cells in the plant. It was very interesting to see how different dead and alive petals are when you look at them very closely.

 When hen I looked at some plants in my back yard I wondered why leaves a dark shade of green on the topside and a light shade of green on the bottom side. I found out that the palisade mesophyll is packed tightly together, witch makes the darker shade of green and on the underside of the leaf, the spongy mesophyll is loosely packed so it can allow room for the things that make photosynthesis possible, and this creates the lighter shade of green.
