<p>
 Our students talked about the various discoveries while exploring at school and home and were able to show documentation through pictures, video and field notes.  Many of the judges were very impressed and and expressed that this was the first project of its type they have seen.  Although we started our exploration in hopes we might find a “tardigade”,  we in fact found a rotifer!  People were amazed with the sophistication but practical application of foldscope!
</p>
<p>
 Many were also surprised how we were able to produce such vivid pictures and video using the attachments!
</p>
<p>
 In short out of hundreds of projects and presentations, we walked away with the 2nd Place Grand Prize!!!
</p>
<p>
 We thank you for a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience a world that is so much larger than themselves!!
</p>

Won Grand Prize at Louisiana STEM Expo

 We found this in a sample of pond water.  Our students tried to look it up to no avail.  We believe it could be some type of hydrazoa.  If anyone can help identify, we would appreciate it.

Star type Organism

 Found this when veiwing one of our student’s samples of pond water. It looks to be an amoeba of sorts. We are in Baton Rouge Louisiana, and last year the city and surrounding areas initiated a chlorine burn of the city water system due to naegleria fowleri “brain eating amoeba”, that was found in drinking water of surrounding areas! The city increased the chlorine levels in the water above .5 milligrams per liter for a period of about 40 days, in hopes of killing off the amoeba

 If this is an amoeba we would like to see what type of is.

Possible Amoeba

<p>
 My class mates and I found what we think may be a family of rotifers! This was a wet soil sample that we brought in to camp.

 Pollen we collected while on a nature walk gathering samples.  Amazing to be able to view microscopic samples so quickly with out going back to the classroom!
</p>
<p>
 Our school will be competing in the Louisiana Stem Expo next week our class has been practicing the technique of “Camera Lucida”. We plan on demonstrating this at the expo this year! Last year our school won the Grand Prize with the fold scope project we hope to do the same this year!

 Our school competed at this year’s Louisiana STEM Expo.  Our presentation of foldscope and its many applications for use got loads of attention!  We were even invited to present to the Louisiana State Board of Elementary &amp; Secondary Education (BESE) to explain how this technology can be used in public &amp; private schools across the state!
