On the 1st day of the "Exploring the Microcosm" course in LG-AUP held at Ashoka University, we were taught by Anupma ma'am how to operate the Foldscope. Our first observation was the Fern Rhizome at 50x magnification, shown as follows.
The entire structure of the rhizome is visible. In the center, a circular pith of cells lies with a red shade, surrounded by a thin layer of blue colored cells, followed by purple, then pink, and then blue cells again. Around this pith, lie blue shaded cells dotted with purple within them, lastly surrounded by pink cells at the outer edges.
Next, we observed the same rhizome at 140x magnification.
This was a bit more magnified than the 50x zoom, but not many extra details are visible compared to the 50x photo.
Lastly, the same rhizome was observed at 340x.
The cells are much more clearly visible and well-detailed, where the pink cells near the pith are magnified to show that the pink cells are surrounded by green borders that separate the cells. These green borders are most likely the cell wall.
