The onion slide was my favourite. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I decided to write a blog about it. After spending some time getting used to the Foldscope, we moved on to onion cells. At first, it seemed funny that something as ordinary as an onion could be interesting enough to study. However, once I managed to focus the Foldscope properly, I completely changed my mind. Under magnification, the onion was transformed into a neat arrangement of rectangular cells that looked almost like tiny bricks. It was fascinating to see a structure I had only ever seen in textbooks appear right in front of me. By the end of the observation, I found myself appreciating onions in a way I never expected.
