In my previous post, I examined pigmentations and cell structure of an apple and a flower. I made conclusions about the coloration of the apple and the flower and compared what I saw from the samples.

In this post, I simply want to examine one more flower petal sample to see how the flower sample compares with my previous flower peta sample.

For this sample, I used another flower from a local flower shop, where this flower in particular was dyed blue (originally white and pinkish in color). I cut off a part of the petal from the center and used the foldscope to take a picture (below).

The foldscope image of the flower shows similar cellular patterns as the previous post’s flower, but the blue dye is obviously in some areas of the image. As the blue dye was given to the flower via dyed water, it seems that the blue parts of the image indicate the parts of the flower that help to distribute water throughout the flower.

I found this project interesting as it expanded on info I found from my last project. While I used this project to explore these ideas it was still helpful to see how my slides were similar even though the flower was different.
