The images below show cells from a layer of white onion: the membranous peel on the inside of the onion bulb. The sample was peeled from an interior layer of a fresh white onion (not the outer skin)–with care to make sure they were as thin and transparent as possible–then dried overnight. The dried peels were then prepared with wet mount slide preparation and examined with the foldscope. The cells and cell walls are clearly visible, but it is worth noting that that they are entirely transparent. Bio60_2019
