Foldscope-magnified image of a droplet of pond water. a.) The image above was taken when observing a droplet sample of pond water through the foldscope. There are droplets of water and a green piece of matter in the center of the picture, as well as smaller transparent pieces of matter surrounding it. The pieces of matter appear to be plant-based; they were not moving.
b.) The sample was obtained from the Baxter turtle pond on Caltech’s campus, at roughly 5pm on April 11th.
c.) The sample was obtained by scooping some water from the pond into vials, and an individual droplet was pipetted onto a clear slide. The sample was then covered with another slide, taped down and observed through the foldscope.
a.) The living matter in this image is likely algae, which is in the kingdom Eukarya. This is my best estimate because the organism is green, immobile, and appears to be plant-based matter.
