The images above show the plants and the pollen of flowers taken from right outside of the Avery House East Gate (shown in the left picture above). The sample was collected on May 5, 2019 at 4:00 pm. It was obtained by removing a flower from the plant by it’s stalk, then the stamens of the flower were removed. The stamens were gently tapped onto a slide to deposit the pollen, then a coverslide was placed on top of the sample and taped into place on both edges.
After researching the color (yellow/orange) and number of petals (6) of the flower online, I compared many results to the collected flower and determined the flower to be a Daylily ( Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus) . The extra leaves coming from the plant in the picture above also seems to resemble the leaves from a daylily plant. Researching images of dalily pollen online, I found images resembling grains or rice, which resembles the pollen image taken from the sample above. Thus, the flower is likely a daylily.
