The image shows a sample of pollen from a jacaranda flower collected in Ricketts House on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, California, at 5:20pm on May 10th 2019. The pollen appears like small white spots in the image, and the dark spots are dirt on the Foldscope lens (identified as they did not move when the slide was moved). The sample was obtained in the location pictured below by pressing the anthers of the jacaranda flower against the slide. The plant species of the pollen is Jacaranda mimosifolia, identified by the appearance and location of the flowers.
