Pollen observed under foldscope, picture taken with iPhone front camera. The image above is of a flower’s pollen, which is approximately of an oval shape and black in color. The pollen is a little bit translucent, but fairly hard to see through.
The agapanthus flower whose pollen is studied. The pollen sample is obtained from one of the small purple flower on campus of Caltech, near Firestone. The flower is picked around 7:30 PM, 5/29. The anther was cut off and crushed. The pollen fallen out is then brushed onto the slide with a wet cotton bud.
The purple lily of the Nile outside of Firestone, Caltech. The flower picked is Agapanthus , which is usually called lily of the Nile, or the African lily in the U.K. The flower is small and purple in color, which multiple usually grow together on one base.
