Pollen of Hibiscus rosa-sinenesis at Caltech

The image above is of a the pollen of a hibiscus flower. In the picture we can see pollen is of a round shape, almost perfectly circle. There seems to be a concentric darker core to the pollen. The pollen is yellow and a bit translucent in color.

The pollen sample is obtained from the big orange Hibiscus on campus of Caltech, out side of Page House. The flower is picked around 11:00 PM, 5/29. The anther is rubbed against the slide to get the pollen fallen out. The pollen is spread flatten and even with a cotton bud.

The flower is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis , also known as Chinese hibiscus. The flower is fairly large and orange in color. The shade is darker and redder near the inside of the petals. More description can be found at the Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus_rosa-sinensis .
