Pollen observed under foldscope, picture taken with iPhone front camera. The image above is of pollen of Romneya , which is round in shape and dark yellow to brown in color. The pollen is relatively small.
The Romneya flower whose pollen is studied. The pollen sample is obtained from one of the big white Romneya flower on campus, outside of Jorgensen Labs, Caltech. The sample is gathered around 4:00 PM, 5/29. The pollen is transferred by rubbing those already fallen onto the petals against the slide.
The Romneya bush outside of Jorgensen Lab, Caltech The flower in this post is Romneya of the poppy family, commonly known as Matiliya poppies. They are perennial shrubs with woody stems, with large white flowers (almost the size of a palm). The petals are massive and fully open, exposing the bright yellow center. More description can be found at the Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romneya .
