Mold observed under foldscope. The image above is of some mold growing on a mango. In the picture, there is a relatively big portion of material of a yellow to green shade and translucent. There are some dark proportions, and some floc around.
The mango on which the mold is growing. The yellow-green-grey spot is the described mold used for this observation. The sample is obtained by picking up a small amount of mold with the tip of a cotton swab and then spreading the sample out on the slide. The mango is from a fridge in Ricketts Hovse, Caltech. It has been kept inside a plastic bag and inside the fridge for at least one week. The mold growing on the mango appears to be grey and white on the outer rim and greyish green on the inside.
One possible species of the mold is the Penicillium expansum . This species of fungi is common throughout the world, and causes what is usually known as the “blue mold” in multiple types of fruits. More information can be found at this Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penicillium_expansum .
