Bougainvillea vine petal intact before being sampled from. Sample (whole flower) was obtained outside the East Bridge building at Caltech (1200 E. California Blvd, Pasadena, CA) at 8:15pm PST. The flower was plucked from the vine, and a part of its petal was torn off manually and analyzed.
Petal from Bougainvillea vine under foldscope magnification; there are individual specks of white light magnified from the petal itself, which are brighter to to their increased thinness/translucency. The overall composition of the flower petal is pink and papery. There are darkly colored pink specks throughout the pink petal, which are a part of the petal’s delicate veins.
