Sickle-shaped mandibles in mouthparts of Antlion Antlions have long clear wings with many veins and long delicate bodies. Some of them have dark markings or spots of color in the wings. Antlions have short but conspicuous antennae that are enlarged at the end. Antlions are likely to be found at lights at night but can be found in the daytime usually at rest on foliage. Immature antlions are called doodlebugs. They make pits in sandy areas and wait for ants and other insects to fall into the pits. Since these are predatory on pests of crops so these are Beneficial insects.
