The phrase “as busy as a honey bee” has never quite been so applicable.
On my way to class, I found a dead bee on the side of a busy cross-section on Stanford’s campus. (I admit, I feel a little guilty about the thought crossing my mind first being: “I can look at it with my Foldscope!”) Upon examination, it appeared that this little bee died valiantly, losing its stinger and giving someone out there a welt that’ll put a damper on anybody’s day.
This is a part of the little bee’s wing, in which you can clearly see hairs growing from the appendage. (This shocked me, because I didn’t know bees had hairs on its wings.)
