This perfectly-shaped rod-like structure is a strand of my hair. As I used box dye to dye my own hair light brown in November, I was curious to see what my hair looked like in the Foldscope 3 months later. I cut part of one strand off, and made a wet mount. Many people warn against using box dye to dye your own hair because the color won’t be evenly distributed. However, looking at my hair in the Foldscope, I see that the brown dye is evenly distributed. This was probably made possible because of the type of hair dye I used, which was a bubbly foam, the texture which was much like that of shampoo. It seems like my hair is fairly clean, as there are no particles lingering on it. However, if I could use a higher magnifying power, I might be able to see how dirty it actually is (as it has been 12 hours since I’ve washed my hair).
