During my trip to Colombia, I was so amazed by nature and surroundings. But at the same time, it was somehow sad to see the precarious water and sanitation services arround rural and semi urban areas.
The last week of my trip we went to the wonderfull Tayrona Park, a natural reserve in Magdalena Region (by the colombian-venezuela border). We stayied at a popular hostel, where they had a social organization for local kids. I remembered that I had taken my foldscope, so it was a perfect coincidence. Talked to the people in charge, and we manage to plan a very summarized workshop for the local kids with one foldscope. Everything exceeded my expectations by far. The children were so interested in taking samples of nature around them and watch all the details on the foldscope, that I finally decided to leave the foldscope there. I’m sure they’ll use it properly.
Goal achieved: – Raise awareness about water and hygiene in local children – create interest and desire to learn more about nature and science.
NO pictures of the samples, because it was the old foldscope 😛
