Workshops for primary school girls. The main objective was to promote, through microscopy, an early approach of girls to science, and help them to glimpse the role of women in science. We expect to contribute to promote gender equity, contributing to the fulfillment of one of the Objectives of UNESCO within the framework of the new Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030.
The workshops consisted of:
Initial interactive talks about History of microscopy, a technological development that allowed the access the “microworld”.

Initial interactive talks about History of microscopy, a technological development that allowed the access the “microworld”.
Practical, “hands-on” activities using low-cost microscopes: 1) Foldscopes, and 2) DIY-type easy-to-assemble microscopes, and 3) microscopy instruments available in the laboratories of the IIBCE.
Final visits to the Institutional microscopes, in which the participants had the opportunity to know different types of microscopes: confocal and super-resolution confocal microscopes (http://www.iibce.edu.uy/CONFOCAL/index.html), atomic force microscope (http://www.iibce.edu.uy/microscopiofuerzaatomica.htm), transmission electron microscope (http://www.iibce.edu.uy/MICROELECTRONICO/index.html). They also received information about the bases of their operation and about the acquisition of images of different types of biological preparations, answering various questions of biological interest.
