What does it feel like to run a Foldscope class in a village school in Mindanao? While Foldscopes help us to zoom in on the minuscule, virtual reality and 360 degree cameras are new technologies to do the opposite – to zoom out to appreciate the context and immersively capture the bigger picture. And in a digital community like ours here, we get to travel to places we would normally never get to – both micro and macro! To view the 360 VR video and photo above, try Google Cardboard or any of the new VR displays (Samsung Gear, Oculus Rift/Go, HTC Vive etc). Or just open it on your PC in the links below: 360 VR video of lesson for a group of about 10 students: https://photos.app.goo.gl/sFYST4MU1DqJH3339 360 VR video of the entire class cheering the completion of the Foldscope session: https://photos.app.goo.gl/rQRr8BR33vD5jDdQ7 The class was conducted in July 2018 by OCIPDavao from NTU Singapore. See previous post here . A specialised VR camera (Ricoh Theta) was used for imaging.
